I made a decision to start my business in 2016 at the age of 45. I remember sitting in my living room one day reflecting on my career and what was next for me as a professional. I spent years doing what I thought was the right thing to do, which was going to college, getting a graduate degree, and establishing a career. Yet I was feeling so unaccomplished and unfulfilled at that time. While I did not know exactly what was next for me, I knew saying goodbye to my 22-year career in nonprofit services was part of my journey.
For some reason, the idea of starting a business popped into my mind. Funny enough, I didn’t know any entrepreneurs personally to inspire me nor was owning a business a lifelong dream for me.
I felt like my desire to start a business at this stage in my life was more about me wanting to have a sense of control over something. Throughout my entire life, someone other than me dictated my time off, how much time I got to spend with my kids, and how much money I was allowed to make. I wanted to change this.
I didn’t know the first thing about starting a business, but I knew I could not let fear stop me. I was certain this was the best decision for me and my daughter. So I committed to learning an entirely different industry. Shortly after this period of self-discovery, I launched Marketing Gem Solutions.
So I launched Marketing Gem Solutions as a website design, branding, and social media management company supporting female entrepreneurs back in 2016. In the beginning, I struggled with marketing, sales, and just getting clients. Then out of nowhere, clients started flowing into my business. Getting that first round of clients and revenue not only felt great but was confirmation that everything had finally come together in business and in life.
Then in 2019, my son died. That is when I completely lost my mind for a period of time. I didn’t know if or when I would ever function normally again. This by far was the biggest challenge I could have imagined facing in life. When we face challenges in life, our business is obviously affected as well.
Shortly after I felt emotionally able to return to the world, I received a call from a former client. She wanted to retain my company to create the same website my team designed for her a while back. It turns out she hit a roadblock and ended up not launching her business after we created her website. This bothered me considering the whole reason I started my business was to help women have the resources they need to stay in business.
So I decided to contact other clients just to check in on their progress in their business. While some of the women were doing well, others were struggling in their business. The more I spoke to the women, the more I realized they needed business mentorship. That’s when I decided to create the Phenomenal Boss Academy so I could provide a step-by-step blueprint to support women as they launched their business.
My focus with Phenomenal Boss Academy is to help busy women monetize their expertise by creating a profitable coaching program using my signature 5-Step Business Launch Blueprint without confusion and overwhelm. My system works even if you think you are too old, don't have the time, or not sure where to start. So you are probably thinking how is this blueprint different from other resources on the market?
Well, when I first started my business, I was frustrated because I could not find a single source to learn how to launch a business step-by-step. I spent hours watching courses, attending webinar after webinar, and reading a ton of eBooks only to never learn what I needed to do first, second, third, fourth, and fifth when it came to starting a business.
Fast forward to today, I packaged the steps I took to launch my business along with my knowledge of marketing, sales, and business development to create Phenomenal Boss Academy. This is the same knowledge I used to help other women launch their first business, create a personal brand, scale their business by building teams, develop a marketing plan, and pretty much establish the foundation for business success.
What makes Phenomenal Boss Academy unique is I will spend 90-days providing live training, mentoring, coaching, and supporting women as they learn how to launch a business step-by-step. Once the 90-days are over, my students will still be able to contact me with questions or to navigate any challenges they’re having. That is what makes my blueprint and program different from other programs on the market.
People always ask me how I define success. Success for me is the freedom to define my own path in life. So what exactly does that mean?
When I reflect back on my life, I worked hard to get an education and to work my way up to management in my nonprofit career. Despite all of the knowledge, skills, and expertise I developed over the years, I was not the one profiting from these qualities; my employer was.
True success for me came when I realized that I could profit from the knowledge, skills, and expertise I worked so hard to acquire. When it comes to defining success in your own life, I always advise people to take the time to discover what makes you happy and fulfilled in every aspect of your life. Do this first before trying to figure out what success means for you. Evaluate what you need spiritually, emotionally, financially, and so forth to make you feel happy and fulfilled.
Once you determine what makes you happy, remove anything that is no longer worthy of your time and energy. I learned this the hard way with my last nonprofit job. I found myself working an average of 50+ hours a week at a job where I was undervalued and unsupported. So no wonder, I didn’t have time to visualize what success in my life looked like.
If my son’s death taught me nothing else, I learned life is too short to stay in situations that no longer serve me or bring me happiness.
Over the next year, I want to help a small group of women profit from their knowledge, skills, and expertise by building a scalable and sustainable business using my Phenomenal Boss Academy 5-Step Blueprint.
This is important to me because I know what it’s like to struggle to get your business up and going. That is why I want to help as many women as I can succeed at their dream of starting a business.
Helping people is at the core of who I am. That is the reason I chose a career in nonprofit services many years ago. It is also the reason I launched Phenomenal Boss Academy.
That is why I cannot wait to hear all of the wonderful stories that will come from my Phenomenal Boss Academy students as they launch their own business for the first time.
